A Movement of Remembering: Healing Intergenerational Trauma Through Art, Story & Community
By Punam Medina | Shakti Shanti Studio

This week, I’ve been immersed in writing my graduate school research prospectus — a deep dive into intergenerational trauma, cultural resilience, and the powerful ways BIPOC communities carry memory, healing, and wisdom in our bones.

And as I sat with it yesterday, it hit me:
This isn’t just research.
It’s my life’s work.

It’s the same thread that runs through every healing arts workshop I’ve facilitated, every watercolor story I’ve painted, and every sacred space I’ve held.

This is a movement of remembering. 🌿✨

A return to the parts of ourselves that were silenced, scattered, or buried beneath survival.
A creative and spiritual practice of reclaiming what was never truly lost.

Through watercolor, storytelling, and sacred gatherings, I create spaces where healing happens — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. These spaces invite people to reconnect with their roots, reclaim their voice, and rise into their wholeness.

They are not just places. They are portals for remembering.

Why This Work Matters

This work is personal.
It’s rooted in my experience as a Fijian-born artist, mother, and healing facilitator walking the path of personal and collective transformation.

It’s about more than just creativity — it’s about trauma-informed healing, decolonized wellness, and embodied liberation.

We don’t heal in isolation — we heal in community.
We don’t perform wholeness — we practice it, gently and honestly.

We are not here to fit into broken systems.
We are here to paint new ones into being.
Together. 💫
